How I learned the trade of gardening.
The first post we dug out took a good space of an hour. It was very stiff in the ground and couldn’t be uprooted by simple force of hand. It needed hammering, digging and eventual sawing, but sawing was the last resort as there’s a health and safety issue here! It was tough work - very physically draining, but such a relief when the post finally came out and we could move on to the next one.
The rest weren’t too difficult. One just needed a gentle hit with the hammer, the others involved digging before hammering and another could be pulled out by hand. We walked around a good portion of the park doing this until the weather told us otherwise.
Through this placement, I am learning the trade of gardening – hammering, sawing and digging things up. It’s a skill that will come in handy in the years to come and I look forward to it doing so…
